All In Credit Union sponsors National Financial Bee

All In Credit Union is partnering with the EVERFI National Financial Bee, taking place now through April 30, 2020. The National Financial Bee is a first-of-its-kind, nationwide financial literacy challenge for middle and high school students.

“During Financial Literacy Month, and especially during this time of unprecedented uncertainty, All In Credit Union is committed to helping students and families plan for their financial future and uncover additional ways to pay for college,” stated Kathy Scarbrough, Vice President of Marketing for All In Credit Union.  “The National Financial Bee provides an opportunity for students to have some fun and learn critical financial concepts — all from the comfort of home while social distancing.”

The five-day challenge was created by EVERFI in response to the current need for additional financial education information for students and is an extension of the Credit Union’s All In 2 Finances Online Financial Challenge.

Throughout the course, participating students will gain new skills to create a personalized financial decision-making framework that they can apply to their lives now and in the future. Topics of the National Financial Bee include spending and saving, credit and debt, employment and income along with investing and insurance.

At the completion of all five lessons, students can choose to complete a brief essay of 300 to 500 words in which they share their financial dreams and explain how they plan to get there. Winners of the National Financial Bee will compete for a total of $20,000 in college scholarships, with the grand prize winner receiving a $10,000 scholarship, second place a $6,000 scholarship and third place a $4,000 scholarship. Winning essays will also be shared on the National Financial Bee website.

Scarbrough commented, “As families across the country are struggling to balance work, childcare and homeschooling amidst widespread school closures driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, All In Credit Union wants to provide additional resources to help parents, teachers and students increase their financial awareness.  There’s never been a better time to learn these important tools and incorporate good financial habits into daily life.”

How The National Financial Bee Works
Students can participate in three 3 easy steps:

  1. Sign up for the National Financial Bee at https://allincu.everfi-next.net/
  2. Complete the five lessons (10 minutes each)
  3. Submit a short essay by May 8, 2020 by answering three essay questions.

Winning essays will be selected by EVERFI who will contact students who are chosen for the National Financial Bee scholarships. Entries will be judged based on creativity, the content of the message, quality of writing, and a demonstrated understanding of the financial concepts from the course. Winners will each receive a 529 College Savings Scholarship, which is a savings plan designed to encourage saving for future education costs.

In addition to the National Financial Bee, All In Credit Union provides financial education throughout the year with programs such as: Youth Financial Summer Camp, teaching financial basics to elementary students, Bee the Boss entrepreneurial training for middle school students and Youth Council to provide training to high school juniors and seniors on a variety of skills including interview techniques and car buying tips in order to prepare them for life.
