The Employee of the Year Award is in honor of one of our employees Melanie Berman, who lost her battle cancer some years ago. Melanie truly embodied the credit union spirit. Many members, to this day, recall fond memories of Melanie as members were her priority and she excelled at providing member service.
Each year, at our Annual Meeting we present this coveted award. Broward HealthCare Federal Credit Union employees nominate one person they feel embodies the credit union movement and lives up to the standards set by Melanie Berman. We ask to not only nominate one person, but why they are being nominated.
Khalilah won with an overwhelming number of nominations. She was described as pleasant, helpful, hardworking, and patient. Many qualities needed during a global pandemic. She showed resilience and leadership during the most difficult of times as we all adapted to new ways of doing business. Khalilah showed a true commitment to her peers and members, she has been described as possessing true leadership skills.
Shortly after our announcement of Employee of the Year, Khalilah was promoted to Member Service Supervisor. She found her first credit union job at the age of 18 in Jamaica, after migrating to the U.S. she continued her career at another local credit union, then went to the dark side (commercial banking), lucky for us she found her way back to the credit union movement. She says she is passionate about the “people helping people” philosophy and has a strong sense of providing excellent member service and making sure our credit union provides the best banking experience possible.
