Birmingham, Ala. — On Thursday, Dec. 5, Avadian Credit Union recognized its 90th anniversary with a celebration at its corporate office in Hoover.
Avadian was formed in 1934 by seven telephone company employees with a capital base of just $70. Their aim was to serve people with the financial products and services they needed to excel.
“It’s always been about service for us,” Avadian’s retiring president and CEO Linda Cencula said. “That approach has allowed us to survive and even thrive when other financial institutions have come and gone.”
Brenda Welborn, the vice-chairperson of Avadian’s Board of Directors, said, “We owe our success to the generations of members, employees, and leaders who believed in the power of unity and shared purpose.”
Originally known as Alabama Telco Credit Union, the credit union changed its name to Avadian Credit Union in 2015 to reflect its more expansive and inclusive field of membership. Today, that membership has grown to include more than 90,000 members. The credit union has assets of more than $1.3 billion and 18 branch locations across the state.
“The 90th anniversary is known as the granite anniversary,” Brant Malone, Avadian’s incoming President and CEO, said. “Granite symbolizes strength, resilience, and endurance, and we’re thrilled to be celebrating the strength, resilience, and endurance of our members that has allowed us to reach 90 years.”
Avadian Credit Union is a full-service, federally insured financial institution with branches across the state of Alabama. With assets in excess of $1.3 billion, Avadian serves more than 90,000 members with friendly and professional service.
