DULUTH, GA (January 13, 2022) – Georgia United Foundation is pleased to provide free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for the 17th year for the Athens and Dalton communities, thanks to a longstanding partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Dalton State College, University of Georgia (UGA) and Georgia United Credit Union.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is open to all low to moderate income taxpayers, without depreciable assets, business losses or extensive stock transactions. Dalton State and UGA students are IRS-certified tax preparers and earn academic credit for their participation in the VITA program. As part of the partnership, office space is provided by Georgia United Credit Union.
Due to ongoing challenges with COVID-19, additional health and safety protocols have been implemented and walk-up appointments will not be offered. All appointments must be scheduled in advance through the online scheduling system at gucufoundation.org/vita.
Athens: In-person sessions will be held at Georgia United Credit Union located at 190 Gaines School Road in Athens.
Sessions will be available January 25 – April 13, 2022, from 5:15 pm – 8 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings; and from 9 am – 12 pm on Saturdays. Virtual appointments will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings from January 25 – April 13. There will be no appointments held on March 5 – March 15, 2022, due to spring break.
Dalton: In-person sessions will be held at Georgia United Credit Union located at 605 Calhoun Street in Dalton. Sessions will be available January 21 – March 5, 2022, from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm on Friday evenings; and 9 am – 3 pm on Saturdays.
Since the program’s inception in 2005, the VITA partnership has filed 28,969 tax returns totaling $25,872,919 in federal and state refunds for the Athens and Dalton communities.
