October 22nd, 20183075Peach State Federal Credit Union has awarded more than $158,000 in scholarships and educational grants throughout the year, according to a Credit Union Journal article.
That number includes 23 Career Advancement Scholarships of $2,000 each as well as nine Legacy Student Scholarships at $2,000 each and 16 school system and community honoree scholarships at $2,000 each.

October 12th, 20188106A Peach State Federal Credit Union employee was among 45 credit union professionals recently certified as Credit Union Development Educators after completing the National Credit Union Foundation's Credit Union Development Education Training.

The donations from Peach State will begin this year.
The Habersham Community Theatre is located in the historic Habersham Theater, built as a movie theater in 1937. Now, the theater offers dramas, musicals, children's productions art exhibits and more. The two credit unions have a combined $1 billion in assets, 20 branches and more than 50 ATMs in Georgia and South Carolina. Their intent to merge has already been approved by each credit union's board of directors. The merger is still subject to regulatory approvals, but is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

October 10th, 20182124Atlanta Postal Credit Union recently announced the appointment of Mike Cantrell, a distinguished postal service retiree, as its newest board member.
Cantrell worked with the United States Postal Service as a rural letter career for 25 years, retiring in 2012. During his postal career, Cantrell held several leadership positions for the National Rural Letter Carrier's Association. He was also elected as the Georgia Rural Letter Carrier's Association's state vice president in 2008 and served as president of the association from 2009 until 2011.

Each year, the Marines Corps Reserve Toys for Tots holds its campaign from Oct. 1 through Dec. 22, according to the Valdosta Daily Times. Residents visit the drop sites to donate new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to local needy children.

Lisa Wilson, a teacher at Lakewood Elementary School, was nominated by a parent who told WRBL that Wilson appears to have endless energy and love for her students.

Afinju Mcdowell, a 22-year retired Marine Corps veteran, was nominated by his wife Judi, according to a WRBL article. His wife told WRBL that Mcdowell never knew how much he impacted students until he received a letter from one of them thanking the teacher for all he had done.
