Birmingham, Ala. – The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) announced that Avadian Credit Union won the 2022 Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award for credit unions in the state of Alabama.
“The philosophy behind the credit union movement is ‘people helping people,’” said Linda Cencula, Avadian’s President and CEO, “so we are beyond delighted to receive the Philosophy in Action Award.”
The award is “given to a credit union for its practical application of credit union philosophy within the actual operation of the credit union.”
Avadian was recognized for its efforts in opening a new branch in the midtown area of Birmingham, creating a more member-friendly overdraft policy, and launching a home improvement loan.
“These projects were undertaken with our members in mind,” said Jeff Skipper, Avadian’s Senior Vice President for Marketing and Digital Experience. “Our Midtown branch offers a technology-first experience in a setting that fosters openness and comfort. We changed our overdraft policy so that members were assessed a fee only on transactions that result in a negative balance of more than $10.00. The home improvement loan was created so members could tackle home improvement projects more quickly than through the process of a typical home equity line of credit.”
Avadian Credit Union is a full-service financial institution with branches across the state of Alabama.
