McCoy Federal Credit Union funds Backpack-A-Thon Virtual School Supply Drive

McCoy Federal and partners of 27 Community Connection (27CC) helped to fund the Hope Now Foundation Backpack-A-Thon Virtual School Supply Drive in Orlando, Florida. WFTV’s 27CC launched a social media campaign encouraging viewers to support a student through online donations. The drive purchased backpacks filled with school supplies for Orange, Osceola, and Seminole county students to start the new school year with the tools they need.

The Hope Now Foundation (HNF) formed in 2003 to give immunizations to impoverished school children and soon discovered additional needs to be met. The first HNF school drive assisted 75 students with only supplies and has expanded its range of services to be the largest back-to-school event in Central Florida.

The HNF 2019 live event served over 10,000 students backpacks filled with supplies, health screenings, toiletries, haircuts, and entertainment. Each year specialty zones add to the festivities—such the “Celebrity Red Couch Reading Lounge,” where local personalities, many dressed as characters in the books, take turns reading to kids. Another favorite was the “Teachers’ Lounge,” an oasis complete with free teaching aids and massage chairs to enjoy snacks with coffee.

McCoy Federal Credit Union embodies the Credit Union charter of “People Helping People” through sponsorships to help those in need and dedicated service to their Members. Beginning in 1954, McCoy Federal has grown to 13 branches assisting over 65,000 Members to achieve their financial goals and dreams.
