During its recent annual training day, MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union employees made a donation to help local homeless men and women.
The employees donated items to the Daybreak Day Resource Center, a division of DePaul USA, which is a national nonprofit organziation providing services to homeless men and women across the nation. Every weekday in Macon, an average of 100 homeless mena nd women visit Daybreak to receive services that can help them overcome the immediate crisis of homelessness. Those services include: housing placement, case management, breakfast and snacks, laundry facilities, showers, a free health clinic, transportation assistance and access to phones and computers.
Daybreak Program Director Sister Theresa Sullivan attended MidSouth Community’s training day to accept the donation.
“I was inspired by the spirit of caring and commitment in the room,” Sullivan said. “The amazing collection of things we need each day reflects your commitment to the community. We put everything up in the pantry and our shelves are full. Yesterday, one of our Daybreak recipients, Calvin, stopped me because his drawstring bag was split down the middle and his clothes were popping out. I brought him into the classroom and let him pick from the backpacks you donated. Not only did he get a bag, but he was able to pick out a bag that he liked. Thanks for making his day.”
