Tampa, Florida (September 6, 2023) —The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus will remember victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack and pay tribute to survivors, first responders, members of the military and their families during a remembrance event on Monday, September 11th, 2023 at Patriot Plaza at the Sarasota National Cemetery. The event is open to the public and supported by USF Federal Credit Union (USF FCU) who serves as the title sponsor.
In addition to the morning event that will get underway at 8:30am, the USF Sarasota-Manatee students, faculty, staff, and volunteers will commemorate the terrorist attack by planting 2,977 miniature United States flags throughout the campus courtyard. Each flag is in remembrance for each person who died in the attacks in New York City, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
“Like many of you, I remember where I was and exactly my reaction and feelings when those planes struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania,” said Richard Sellwood, Chief Operating Officer of USF Federal Credit Union. “With the observance of this ceremony, we take a moment from our busy lives and remember the 9-11 event, something we all have pledged to truly Never Forget.”
Through their mission of giving back to those communities they serve, USF FCU proudly sponsors the tribute to the victims of September 11th, 2001 so they can help share the history and lessons learned with a new generation.
