Marietta, GA – April 20, 2022 – Credit Union of Georgia was excited to surprise Lillian Murrell at their West Cobb Branch with a $1,000 Scholarship earlier this week. Lillie was selected as the annual scholarship winner from Credit Union of Georgia and the Marietta Schools Foundation based on her essay on Where #DoYouCU Making a Difference, based on the Credit Union hashtag, #DoYouCU. In addition to the essay, scholarship applicants were asked to submit two letters of recommendation, their transcript and their resume outlining extracurricular activities, community service and work experience.
Lillie shared in her essay that as President of the Interact Club at Marietta High School she developed a strong bond with an 84-year-old lady named Laila at Winwood Retirement Community. Lillie further explained in her essay of Where #DoYouCU Making a Difference that you don’t have to do something huge to make a difference in someone’s life. Making people feel loved, special, seen, and heard is an ordinary way to make an extraordinary difference in people’s lives. The selection committee at the Credit Union loved Lillie’s sentiments as it embodies the mission of the Credit Union, People Helping People.
“Credit Union of Georgia loves to give back – and we want to thank our students for giving back as well.” said Brian Albrecht, President/CEO of Credit Union of Georgia. “If we don’t have community, then we don’t have much at all. Our students are the future of our communities, so we want to make sure that we let them know that what they are doing is being noticed. Congratulations Lillie, we wish you the best at Auburn University!” To learn more about Credit Union of Georgia, visit www.CUofGA.org.
