Associated Credit Union hosts grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of new Decatur branch

Associated Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its new Decatur Branch location on Oct. 4.

ACU executives and staff gathered with representatives from the City of Decatur, the DeKalb County Chamber and the League of Southeastern Credit Unions. The new branch’s design and build partner, Consultants and Builders, Inc., also came to celebrate their latest project with ACU.

The new location in Decatur showcases ACU’s branch design moving forward. The traditional teller line is non-existent which leads to an open space concept. A branch representative greets members at the door, and new technology — including an Interactive Teller Machine — has been added to increase the level of member service.

“While others are closing branches, we wanted our membership to know that we are not closing, but rethinking our branch layouts and locations,” said Michael Huff, AVP of project management at Associated. “Branches are here to create amazing member experiences and to deliver what can’t be done through other channels — a human connection to the credit union. And we want this connection to be what drives our business into the future.”

The Grand Opening Ceremony began with words from Huff. Then, CEO and President Lin Hodges spoke of his enthusiasm for the new and improved branch style and more visible location in this Live. Work and Play Community — a first for an ACU Branch.

Katerina Taylor, president and CEO of the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, also shared a few words with the group about her positive experience working with credit unions, and her excitement that ACU is giving the people of Decatur more options for banking.

“I love this new spin on Live, Work and Bank,” Taylor said. “It’s important that we are giving people access to affordable banking products and products that fit their needs — and that has always been my experience with credit unions.”

Following the speakers, everyone gathered outside for the ribbon cutting.
