Credit Union of Georgia acts as presenting sponsor at surprise unveiling of local teacher of the year

Credit Union of Georgia recently helped surprise Cherokee County School District’s Teacher of the Year.

The credit union acted as a presenting sponsor at the school district’s 2018 Legacy Makers: CCSD Teacher of the Year Celebration. This year, the overall winner was kept a surprise until the dinner.

Mill Creek Middle School PE and health teacher Dana Townsend received the surprise award at the end of the program. Townsend, who has been an educator for 22 years, uses her experience teaching reading, science and social studies to expand upon traditional PE and health class coursework and to collaborate with her colleagues, according to a Woodstock Patch article.

“Every student deserves a community that supports their physical, mental and emotional health,” Townsend told the Woodstock Patch. “To be a teacher is to have the daily opportunity to change lives. It’s really a blessing to be able to do this every day.”

Townsend and all school-level teachers of the year received gifts purchased with donations made by presenting sponsors, including Credit Union of Georgia.
