This year, WinSouth Credit Union helped the Marine Toys for Tots campaign in DeKalb distribute toys to more than 1,000 families from more than 400 families.
In fact, the credit union became one of the toy drive’s top fundraisers of the year, according to a Times-Journal article.
This wasn’t an easy year for the drive. According to the Time’s article, the seventh-annual campaign suffered weather-related losses of three fundraisers as well as debilitating injuries to some of the volunteers.
“When the going got tough, I kept reminding our volunteers to think of how many children would have smiling faces on Christmas morning, thanks to them,” LaRue Hardinger, coordinator for Marine Toys for Tots of DeKalb County told the Journal. “And persevere they did — through heat, rain, cold and pain.”
