They live among us. They could be a parent of your son’s best friend, the person standing in the checkout line next to you, or your daughter’s softball coach. You may have even visited one. They take care of us when we’re sick and keep us healthy. In many cases, they even save lives. They are the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, dentists, ophthalmologists, researchers, innovators, and others who are committed and work diligently in the field of health and life sciences. They are the healthcare heroes.

On May 16, at Gypsy Kitchen in Buckhead, CDC Federal Credit Union had the honor and privilege of recognizing 19 heroes at Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2019 Healthcare Heroes Awards event. Honorees were recognized in a number of categories for the contributions and achievements they have made and continue to make in their chosen field.

CDC Federal Credit Union took on a major role in sponsoring the event. Andy Anderson, vice president of Marketing and Member Engagement, said the credit union wanted to be a part of something that honored the membership base the credit union serves.

“With the majority of our members in the health and life sciences industry, we were looking for some way to honor them,” he said. “The work they do is vital to the health and well-being of all Americans and beyond our borders. And as they’re doing their job, we want to help them by doing ours to make their finances the last thing they have to worry about. That’s exactly what we mean when we say, ‘Making a difference to those who make a difference.’”

More than 70 people showed up at the Healthcare Heroes Awards event to recognize and support the honorees. This was the first Healthcare Heroes Awards event in several years after the Atlanta Business Chronicle opted to forgo the event in recent years.

“It was great to see a good turnout for the event and to see others support their coworkers and colleagues,” Anderson said. “We were happy to be a part of this year’s event. It’s just our way of saying thank you to those who work to make a difference in the lives of others.”
