Georgia United Credit Union donates to four local community food banks

Georgia United Credit Union is helping fight food insecurity in their local communities through their #FightHunger challenge.

“Georgia United is committed to improving the lives of our members, team members and the communities we serve,” said Community Development Officer Liz Riffert. “The pandemic has made this year especially challenging and food banks across Georgia are experiencing an increase in demand. The Fight Hunger challenge is a rewarding and fun way for members and team members to help their neighbors in need.”

The credit union pledged to donate a dollar to local food banks for every fight-hunger post made on their Facebook page. On Oct. 15, a total of $5,000 was distributed among four local community food banks.

  • Atlanta Community Food Bank – $2,000
  • Laurens Baptist Association – $1,000
  • Dalton’s Greater Works – $1,000
  • Food Bank of Northeast Georgia – $1,000

“Thank you Georgia United for this donation,” said Ben Burgess, manager of corporate relations at Atlanta Community Food Bank. “It will cover the cost of 8,000 meals to families who are facing food insecurity within the community.”
