Credit unions have experienced success in Georgia due to their unique ability to help members afford life — and future success is contingent upon maintaining that uniqueness.
Those were just some of the points Georgia Credit Union Affiliates CEO Mike Mercer touched on when he sat down with The BigCast host Glen Sarvady in November of 2017 to discuss the state of Georgia credit unions.
Mercer, who has been based in Georgia for 30 years and who also remains heavily involved in credit unions on a national level, said GCUA has been working through a variety of facets to make sure the community understands what advantages credit unions provide over banks, according to a Best Innovation Group article. He also pointed out that credit unions are merging, increasingly creating larger institutions. That slides much of the pressure to positively brand the industry on large credit unions.
“Today, when you stop people on the street, more than likely their experience, good or bad, is being informed by fewer and fewer very large credit unions,” Mercer said. “How the large credit unions do in terms of satisfying customers is going to have a lot to do in the future with how the general population comes to regard credit unions.”
