The CUNA Mutal Group Foundation and CUAid are poised to present a meaningful Christmas gift to credit unions and their members suffering from the affects of natural disasters.
“There are still significant needs for the affected disaster areas and holidays can be especially hard for those displaced from their homes or businesses,” said CUNA Mutual Group Foundation Leader Beth Cutler in a press release.
With that in mind, CUNA Mutual Group Foundation pledged Tuesday to match every dollar donated to credit union disaster relief fund CUAid – up to $100,000 – through Dec. 31. CUAid is the only disaster relief fund dedicated to helping credit unions, their employees and their members recover from natural disasters, according to the press release. The fund donates 100 percent of its proceeds directly to the relief efforts of credit unions affected by hurricanes, floods and wildfires in the U.S. mainland and in Puerto Rico.
CUNA Mutual Group Foundation has already been involved in disaster relief efforts. After this holiday campaign, the group will have raised more than $400,000 for those recovering from natural disasters this year alone. Much of that came from matching donations made by CUNA Mutual Group employees.
Cutler said it’s all part of the credit union way.
“Our industry always comes together in times of need; it is the people who make this movement truly about service,” she said. “This is who we are and what we do as a credit union community.”
Anybody who wishes to help provide aid to victims of natural disasters can make a donation through CUAid.
