ORLANDO, FL (August 2021) – On July 23, McCoy Federal Credit Union’s Business Development and
Marketing team partnered with the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) to conduct real life budget and expense
simulations of families and individuals for Financial Education Day at the Children’s Safety Village of Central Florida.
The YEP attendees used McCoy’s work books to discover their disposable income. They were then given their
“monthly pay check” to pay the “vendors of life” such as the mortgage company, utilities, insurance and groceries.
Seeing the physical money dwindle gave impact to their budgeting work sheet and taught the importance of preparing
for goals in life and unexpected challenges.
“We all had such an amazing time at the safety village,” said YEP Event Coordinator Fleur O’Hara. “The children
learned so much, and they were delighted with the presentation and interactions with them. We love working with
you and hope that this becomes a wonderful partnership for McCoy Federal Credit Union.”
Founded in 2011 by Orlando Entrepreneurs, the Youth Empowerment Project, Inc. (YEP) is a national non-profit
organization designed to expose, equip and empower youth to succeed through career exploration, professional
development, business experiences, paid internships and entrepreneurship training.
