Run for The Russell Home 5K proceeds will help maintain facilities to care for atypical children 24/7.
CENTRAL FLORIDA – On April 10, McCoy partnered with 27 Community Connection to sponsor the Run for The Russell Home 5K. Central Florida walked and rolled at the virtual event to raise funds to maintain the home, facilities and staff who care 24/7 for atypical children.
Pam Brazell, HR Manager, praised how for 50 years she has experienced the selfless love the caregivers shower upon the residents. When the residents shared their thoughts, their feelings reflected the core values of The Russell Home: “They help me all day because they love me; They listen to me if I need to talk about how I’m feeling; I love everybody here; I like getting hugs and helping the staff out when they need it; I love to come and see all the workers and my friends, especially Beca, my teacher.”
Grandma Russell opened her personal home to one atypical child in 1951 to “see if it would work out.” Since then, The Russell Home has cared for hundreds of children, many who arrived from across the country.
In 1967, The Russell Home became the first non-profit residential institution in the country to care 24/7 for atypical children.
