(MOBILE, AL) New Horizons Credit Union, once again, proudly awarded five deserving high school seniors with a $1,000 scholarship as part of the 2021 New Horizons Credit Union Scholarship Program which awards scholarships based on academic achievement, community involvement, and essay responses.
New Horizons Credit Union’s Scholarship Program has been going strong for over 19 years awarding over $70,000 in scholarship dollars. To qualify for consideration, a student must be a graduating high school senior and have a New Horizons Credit Union New Wave Savings Account.
During a year when the pandemic crisis continued to cause school operation upheaval and virtual classroom scenarios, New Horizons Credit Union carried on with the program and with the awarding of their annual scholarships. Winning students were contacted individually and through their high school’s guidance office for recognition among their peers. Each awardee was also sent a New Horizons Credit Union Certificate of Achievement to add to their college portfolio. The winners’ desired college will receive a check in the student’s name to be applied to their college costs.
Edith Franklin, President/CEO of New Horizons Credit Union, comments, “We believe in giving back in our community – especially through education. Many applications were received despite school reorganization and virtual settings caused by the pandemic. The many quality applications we received made the final decision very difficult, but five candidates did rise above the rest. All of the students should feel very proud of their accomplishments, and we wish them success in their pursuits.”
