Suncoast Credit Union helps pay for mental health pros at Lee County schools

Suncoast Credit Union recently worked with Lee Health’s Kids’ Mind Matter initiative to help fund the integration of two mental health professionals into Lee County schools.

This pilot program — a collaboration between the Lee County School Board and Lee Health, will help children and families at Ray V. Pottorf and Colonial elementary schools who are struggling with mental and behavioral issues, according to a Fort Myers Florida Weekly article.  The goal is to intervene as early as possible to help students receive the care they need as their minds develop.

“I want to thank our partners, the School District of Lee County and Suncoast Credit Union, for helping us bring this important program to fruition. When we first asked the school district how we could help, they told us mental health navigators were the single most important thing they needed,” Lee Health Vice President Medical Director of Behavioral and Mental Health told Fort Myers Florida Weekly. “There is no one-size-fits-all approach to tackling mental health, it is truly a community-wide effort and naviagors help connect children and their families to all of the resources our community has to offer.”
