This year marks the second year that Naheola Credit Union teamed up with Mrs. Kelly Gandy at Demopolis High School to provide students the opportunity to compete in the Financial Fitness Tournament sponsored by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions.
This year Michael Osmer, a senior at DHS, came in 3rd place in this competition. Due to COVID-19, the tournament was held online. Michael competed against 50 other students from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. She received $300.
During her time at DHS, Michael took four years of financial classes and was able to complete the financial track. She was an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America, Anchor Club, Key Club, Peer Leaders, Science National Honor Society, BETA, Mu Alpha Theta, and Student Council. She worked with the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce and helped with Christmas on the River preparations, including the floats. She was recognized for her efforts by the Chamber with the award Student Volunteer of the Year, marking the first time the organization has recognized young people for their community efforts outside the classroom.
Her future plans are to attend the University of South Alabama and pursue a degree in the field of Allied Health. We are so proud of her and wish her “Good luck!” in her future endeavors.
